Grandparents/Grandfriends Day
This term, our character theme has been 'Gratitude and Respect' and we were blessed with a fantastic day when over three hundred grandparents and grand-friends converged on the school to share life's many experiences. We had such a variety that the children heard tales from tough days on the football field to how one lady coped when things got tough-all valuable lessons to help this new generation cope with the pressures of life. The day started at 9:10 am with our skilled band playing a welcome under the guidance of Niall Pettit-Young. Our grand-friends were then invited to go into classrooms from 9:30 am where they offered up a 'Message For Life' on a poster, completed a combined art lesson, played Friendship Games and shared small talks with a rapt audience. After our break we moved to the COLA for a Gratitude Gathering where the students performed and presented written offerings to our grand-friends and grandparents, this was then followed by a BYO picnic lunch on the grass or under the trees. We were also able to capture a special photo of all of our visitors starting from those born before 1920 right through to the 1950's.
Our focus has been on Gratitude and Respect and what better mentors than our grandparents and grand-friends to show us what these terms really mean. Thank you from the staff and students of this great school!
This will be a living history project where the generations come together and share and we had a small film team from Kirrawee High to capture this special day which will be put together shortly and distributed to our most special guests and mentors- our grandfriends!
