Grays Point Public School - "Our School in the Park"

Accessing The DET Portal For Students

Accessing the Internet Via the Department of Education and Training (DET) Portal From Home

1.To locate the DET portal at home open your preferred web browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer etc)

2.This will take you to a secure log in window (At school the web browser is not active until the student has logged in.)

The student will be required to type in their DET student ID.

Every student and employee of the DET has an individual ID and they retain this username until Year 12 or when they leave the NSW Public Education system.

The username is generally given name.surname with no spaces eg john.roberts and a period between the two names. When there is more than one student with the same name they are usually allocated a number eg john.roberts14

Kindergarten and year 1 students are given a simple password based upon their class

Year 2 students are asked to create their own simple password and we keep a record for any memory lapses.

From Year 3 we expect students to create their own password and KEEP IT PROTECTED. If at any time a student feels this security has been breached they should change their password or see their classroom teacher or me.

At no time should a student divulge their password or the password of another student to anyone.

The school looks at how you use your school email

· Say No - to using the computer to find, read or send anything rude, scary or unkind

· Go – to a responsible adult if you do and

· Tell – a responsible adult about anything that makes you feel uncomfortable

4.Students must agree to these rules before gaining access to the internet.

.

A student’s email address is their DET ID @education.nsw.gov.au

eg john.roberts14@education.nsw.gov.au

At Grays Point PS students do not have access to computers unless under the supervision of a teacher and computers are used for educational purposes only.
